US/ AIM @ THE LEVEL/

The Level gives the sometime welcome effect of feeling like your not in Bristol at all; years spent in beer and chipboard venues like Lakota and The Blue mountain give the impression of being transported to some Sleaze Nation certified London venue. The kitsch interior is dominated by fake wood panelling, subtle lighting and assorted 70's geographical nick nacks. Adding to the theme the hyper - post - modern - ironic - iconoclastic Battle of the Planets cartoon played on the plasma screen at the back of the room.

A chilled mainly student crowd welcomed Grand Central's Aim to the decks; no live set as we hoped but you can't really blame the promoters (Friends and Family) for bending the billing slightly. Thankfully which ever member of Aim it was playing he was spinning some quality tunes based on solid breaks from hip hop to hardcore classics, all smoothly mixed in a progressive manner. The Level is certainly a Level (doh) above what Bristolian's are used to and no doubt many more decent nights will be loved and lost here.
